Umsteigen

Jetlag explains my rising at 6am today. I arrived yesterday morning in Sydney, fresh from 10+ hours of "plane sleep" courtesy of United. My bags arrived a few hours later. Leaving the bone-deep winter chill of the East Coast for the gentle warmth of Sydney was the best winter decision I've ever made! I got off one train, propelling my life toward simplicity, boredom, and stability, and transfered back to the high-speed, directionless one I have missed so much. Two weeks in Turkey and Greece were not enough to quench my thirst back in October. So off I go again!

Yesterday we took the ferry across the harbor to the zoo, then back to walk the streets and shop a little bit. The fashion here is unbelievable and I can't stop giggling outright at people walking past. I should have kept some of the flowered party dresses, bows, and cutoff t-shirts from my childhood - they'd be vintage now!

Life has taken some unexpected although much-needed turns in the last 6 months. I have tried to ride the wave gracefully and without much attachment to the outcome. That's all very well and zenlike, but it has been a struggle to keep my head down and make the most of the people and experiences that come my way.

So here I am, breathing still in Sydney, enjoying the green and the sunshine! Tonight is NYE, fireworks, and the beginning of a new year.
